چکیده

A Gas Electron Multiplier with Micro-Induction Gap Amplifying Structure (GEM-MIGAS) is formed when the induction gap of the GEM is set between 50 and 100 mm using kapton pillars spaced at regular intervals. This configuration combines the properties of a GEM and Micromegas, allowing operation in tandem to generate high charge gains. We measured the essential operational parameters of this system using argon–isobutane (IB) and helium–IB gas mixtures. The present short induction gap GEM was able to achieve effective gains exceeding 2 10 using argon–IB and 10 using helium–IB mixtures. In view of the high gains achieved, particularly when using heliumbased gas mixtures, these studies confirmed the possibility of using the present system for high-performance sub-keV X-ray detection. r 2007 Elsevier B.V. Investigation of the operation of Thick Gas Electron Multiplier and Electron Multiplier Assembly for alpha particle detection

In this study, the detection of alpha particles in the high current mode is investigated in the presence of two gaseous electron multipliers in the micro-pattern structures. Thick Gas Electron Multiplier (TGEM) and an Electron Multiplier Assemblies (EMA) were designed and constructed as amplification gap in the detector chamber. An ion chamber is employed to measure the current of interaction b...

Applications of triple GEM detectors beyond particle and nuclear

Micro-Pattern Gaseous Detectors (MPGD) have opened the way for the construction of detectors whose performance surpasses that of the previous generations in terms of spatial resolution, high-rate capability and increased radiation hardness. Led by the Micro-Mesh Gaseous Structure (Micromegas) and the Gas Electron Multiplier (GEM), some MPGDs are mature technologies used in a variety of experime...

Synthesis, characterization, and gas sensing properties of In-doped ZnO nanopowders

Indium (1at %) doped ZnO and ZnO nanoparticles have been synthesized via sol gel method. The structural characters of the synthesized nanoparticles have been studied by X-ray diffraction pattern (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy-dispersiveX-ray spectroscopy (EDX). From synthesized nanopowders a tablet was prepared by using the isostatic pressing and then sintered at ...

A Two-Stage, High Gain Micro-strip Detector

A two stage position-sensitive gas proportional counter has been constructed by tightly coupling a Gas Electron Multiplier (GEM) with a Micro-Groove Detector (MGD). The GEM was used as the first amplifying stage and was optimised to transmit close to 100 % of the primary charge even at very high drift fields (10 kV/cm). Very narrow GEM– MGD separations (0–600 m) were used so that the active vol...

Radiosensitization effect of ZnO nanoparticles in lung cancer cells at clinically relevant megavoltage energy

Introduction: Radiation therapy is one of the major modalities that have long been used in cancer treatment. Radiotherapy is often accompanied by early and late toxicity and side effects and narrow therapeutic window. Similarity in radiation absorption properties of tumors and neighboring healthy tissues is often the reason for low specificity of radiation therapy. Development ...
